On 31ts of August Liverpool have completed the signing of Paul Konchesky on a four-year contract. The 29-year-old full-back moves to Anfield from Fulham after agreeing terms with the Reds and passing a medical. Youngsters Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic have made the switch from Anfield to Craven Cottage as part of the deal.
Konchesky has been allocated the number 3 shirt in Roy Hodgson's squad.
Some interesting facts about our new boy? Not a problem at all …
- Konchesky was born on May 15, 1981 and shares a birthday with fellow left-back Patrice Evra and Scottish tennis star, Andy Murray. Paul began his footballing life with East London outfit Senrab boys, who can also boast to have had John Terry, Ledley King, Jlloyd Samuel, and Bobby Zamora on their books.
- He has a habit of hitting the back of the net in sensational style and was awarded Fulham's goal of the season gong for his stunning 35-yarder in a 3-1 defeat against former club, West Ham in 2008-09.
- The left-back doesn't believe in offering a mute response to goals against his former clubs and would probably enjoy the moment if he struck against Fulham in the future. Asked if he would stay quiet if he netted against West Ham back in 2009, he said: "There's no harm in celebrating a goal as long as you don't go to the lengths of Emmanuel Adebayor!"
- And last but not least … the real blast: Paul is brother-in-law to John Terry's elder brother, who is also named Paul.
Finally there are good news for all of you who can’t wait to see Paul playing in out reds shirt: he will make his Liverpool debut in Jamie Carragher's testimonial against Everton on Saturday.
Welcome at Anfield, Paul!
