In the mid-90s, a bright-eyed Rafa Benitez went to Fiorentina to study Claudio Ranieri’s coaching methods. Years later the Spaniard would follow the Italian by taking over at Valencia, two years after Ranieri had left the club; when Benitez then left for Liverpool, a re-appointed Ranieri replaced his former apprentice. Now managing last year's top two Serie A teams, the two face off tomorrow for only the fourth time. Rafa's Inter beat Claudio's Roma 3-1 in the Supercoppa last month, and the pair's only previous clashes were in 1998/99 when Rafa’s relegation-haunted Extremadura took four points off Claudio’s title-chasing Valencia. Perhaps it's time Ranieri learned some lessons from Benitez...
